contact lens insertion and removal
New contact lens wears will need to schedule an insertion and removal class. This is done at the office with a trained optician. The patient must be able to insert and remove the contacts before going home with the lenses. A fee will apply, which includes up to 3-30min sessions within a 3 month period.
Soft contact lens insertion
- Always wash and dry your hands before handling contact lenses.
- Open one eye at a time. Scoop the contact out of the contact lens case.
- Dry your index finger off with a lint free towel before placing contact on. Soft contacts tend to stick to wet fingers.
- Place the right lens on the tip of the index finger of your dominant hand.
- Using two fingers on your other hand, pull and hold your upper eyelid open.
- Pull down your lower eyelid, using the middle finger of your inserting hand.
- Place the lens gently on the color part of your eye.
- Look up and down to position the lens correctly.
- Release your eyelid, and close your eye for a moment.
- Always wash and dry your hands before handling contact lenses.
- Start with your right eye again, for consistency's sake. Have your lens case open and ready, with fresh contact lens solution.
- Make sure the lens is centered on your eye. Insert a few rewetting drops to lubricate your lens before removal.
- Pull your lower eyelid down with the middle finger of your inserting hand.
- Use your index finger to slide the lens down to the lower white part of your eye.
- Gently squeeze the lens between your thumb and index finger, and remove it from your eye.
- Rinse the lens with contact solution, and put it into your lens case.
